General

During business hours, the CDS spaces are intended solely for usage that is related to research, teaching, and public engagement around digital scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, and in particular activities conducted by:

CDS projects and partners, CDS staff and directors, and relevant groups in the library.

Night Hours

Once the CDS is fully open, during nighttime hours the general CDS areas will be open for quiet study. The project spaces, workrooms, and kitchen are locked after hours.

CDS Kitchen

The kitchen and adjacent eating area are reserved for the use of CDS affiliates. We ask everyone to follow these guidelines so that we can all enjoy a clean and safe eating environment:

Food decoration

Please feel free to bring food to share with fellow CDS folks! Shared Food can be left in the kitchen or adjacent tables, without obstructing the kitchen utilities. Please label food if possible (or retain the packaging) to indicate possible allergens.

Tidiness decoration

Apart from shareable food, the kitchen should be kept clean at all times and all utensils, containers, etc. should be washed and stored immediately. No dirty dishes or containers should be left out.

Storage decoration

Non-perishable food to share can be left out for multiple days until consumed; perishable food should be kept in the fridge and should be thrown out when no longer current. If you have an event that generates surplus supplies (cups, plates, utensils, sugar, etc.) please add it to the cabinets!

Fridge decoration

The fridge will be cleaned regularly and cleared of all perishable food that is older than a week. Apart from regular cleanings (which will be announced in advance), no food should be thrown out by anyone except its owner. Please label all food in the fridge with the date, and name of owner or intended person(s).

Use of Meeting and Open Spaces

Noise decoration

Meetings in the main presentation space have “sonic priority”: when it is in use for a public meeting, people working in adjacent areas should keep their own sound levels down, and should expect that there will be meeting noise from the presentation space. Groups that are meeting should be mindful of others using the space nearby; quiet discussion is great but loud talking, music, and other distracting noise should be avoided.

Meetings & Presentations decoration

When held in the main presentation space, these events are public and people are welcome to observe and join in. These might include workshops, brown-bag presentations, reading groups, and similar events.

Furniture decoration

The furniture in the meeting spaces can be moved and reconfigured, but should not be moved outside of the immediate area. If you move furniture, please move it back when you’re done.

Food & Beverage decoration

Refreshments in the meeting spaces are fine, but please eat messy foods only in the kitchen area. Please don’t leave trash or mess behind in any of the spaces.
